Robert (Bob) V. Lucas
President and Managing Attorney

bob_lucas_headshotAs president and managing partner of Lucas, Denning and Ellerbe, P.A. (LDE), Bob Lucas manages the day-to-day operations of the firm as well as leading the personal injury and workers’ compensation areas of the firm’s practice.

Lucas has won many high profile personal injury and workers’ compensation cases in his 37-year career. He is a leader in the legal profession who has served as president of the Johnston County Bar Association and is a member of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, the North Carolina Bar Association and the American Bar Association. In addition, he served as Mayor of the town of Selma from 1989 to 1991.

Lucas founded LDE in 1979 after receiving his Juris Doctorate from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He received his Bachelor of Arts in political science from East Carolina University.  While at ECU, Lucas served as Student Body President and also formed and served as the first President of the Association of Student Governments – an organization that still exists today.  He served on the East Carolina University Board of Trustees beginning in 2006.  He was elected Vice Chairman of the Board from 2007-2009 and Chairman of the Board from 2009-2011.

A native of Raleigh, N.C., Bob has lived in Johnston County for the past 37 years and has been active in his community and in organizations with causes he holds dear.  Outside of the office, you’ll find him spending time with on his farm with his dog Luke, his Friesian horses and an assortment of other adopted pets.  Bob has a deep respect and connection with nature and as a consummate fisherman; he served as the chairman of the North Carolina Marine Fisheries Commission and was recognized as the North Carolina Conservationist of the Year.

Lucas is married to Mrs. Victoria Lucas and has two children, Kelly Lucas Calabria and Jonathan Blaine Lucas.


William Robert (Bob) Denning, III
Partner and Attorney

denningHard work equals good results. That’s the motto of our criminal defense attorney, Bob Denning. Bob, who has been practicing law for over 30 years, leads our criminal defense team.

In 2008, Bob was named one of North Carolina’s Legal Elite by Business North Carolina magazine. The Legal Elite are attorneys who have been selected by their peers within the North Carolina Bar Association as the best in their respective fields.

Bob received his law degree from the Campbell University School of Law in 1983. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association, the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

A lifelong resident of Johnston County, Bob enjoys playing golf, watching sports and traveling with his wife Michelle and wonderful son.




Sarah E. Ellerbe
Of Counsel and Attorney

ellerbe_headshotA desire to help others stand up for their rights drove Sarah Ellerbe to pursue a legal career.

Ellerbe joined Lucas, Denning and Ellerbe, 21 years ago after receiving her bachelor’s degree in music performance from Salem College and her Juris Doctorate from the Campbell University School of Law.  Serving of Counsel to the firm, she litigates workers’ compensation, personal injury and social security disability cases.  In addition to her work at the firm, Ellerbe has worked as a professor at Johnston Community College in the College Paralegal Program.

Sarah grew up in Lake Wales, Florida, and has been a resident of Johnston County for the past 22 years. Outside of the office you’ll find her enjoying one of her many hobbies including horseback riding, exercising, spending time with her husband and daughter and playing her harp.






Philip A. Olivier
Attorney

Philip joined Lucas, Denning and Ellerbe in 2015 after earning his Juris Doctorate from Campbell University School of Law. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his undergraduate studies, where he double majored in History and Political Science.

Philip is a member of our civil litigation legal team and works on all aspects of our lawsuits, including discovery, depositions, mediation, and trial. He also contributes to many of our workers’ compensation cases and drafts legal briefs and motions to assist our clients.

When he is not at the office, Philip enjoys watching sports, reading, and spending time with his fiancé Elizabeth.



Elizabeth Austin
Associate Attorney

Elizabeth Austin joined Lucas, Denning and Ellerbe in 2016 after earning her Juris Doctorate. from Campbell University School of Law. She attended the University of Charleston in Charleston, West Virginia for her undergraduate studies, where she double majored in Political Science and History.

Austin is a member of our pre-litigation legal team and works on all aspects of our cases. She is responsible for preparing settlement packages and drafting documents including lawsuits, motions, and correspondence.  She also assists with day-to-day communication with clients.

When she is not at the office, Elizabeth enjoys reading, watching television, and spending time with her fiancé Philip.
